Most food particularly canned and dried food including eggs and drinking water have been sold out as the floods have affected farms and key areas in central Thailand. Three million eggs were imported from Malaysia. Deputy Prime Minister and Commerce Minister Kittiratt Na-Ranong said egg supplies have dropped and panic buying has induced a shortage. ______________________ Dramatic growth in Indonesia's corn imports[31 October 2011] "Feed demand continues to grow in Southeast Asia. A decline in production in the 2009-2010 year in the region saw an increase in total imports. I think the fundamentals are here to stay, and the region’s long term interdependence on feed grains and oilseeds trade with the rest of the world is going to grow," Adel Yusupov, US Grains Council regional director in Southeast Asia told Asian Agribusiness Media. "Southeast Asia is expected to import a record 7.5 to 8 million tonnes of corn in 2011, a 60% increase or 3 million tonnes more than the region’s 2007 purchases. I believe Southeast Asia’s growing appetite for meat and shortfalls in local production will create a corn market bigger than that of South Korea or perhaps even Mexico within a few years. He noted that Indonesia surpassed Malaysia this year as the dominant corn importer. US corn sales to Indonesia reached 407,000 tonnes in the January-to-July period, an increase of almost 4,000% over the same period last year. Trade sources indicate Indonesia could import from 2.5 - 3 million tonnes of corn this year. ______________________ Indian corn price up[20 October 2011] Indian corn futures may climb at the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange of India (NCDEX) as the poultry industry which consumes 50% of domestic corn production is expected to grow at an annual rate of 20%, according to a study by the Associated Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Assocham). Corn contracts at NCDEX are trading up on increased poultry sector demand for the commodity. In the most active trading last week, November corn contracts rose 4.5% on week to INR 1090.50 (USD 21.9) on Saturday. Assocham said the Indian poultry industry is expected to cross INR 13,200 billion (USD 26.5 billion) by 2015. This will immensely boost demand for corn, which is the major ingredient for poultry feed. ______________________ Source :asian-agribiz.com September 23, 2011 September 05, 2011 | | Thursday, September 01, 2011 | | | | Thursday, August 25, 2011 | | | | | | | | More >> | | | Vietnam's meat imports gain favour | | | As domestic meat prices in Vietnam increase, imported goods are attracting more market goers and food processing organisations due to their competitive prices. | | | More >> | | | China's demand for US corn continues to grow | | | China in July ordered a higher-than-expected 21 million bushels (533,000 tonnes) of US corn, a sign that the country is struggling to meet rising demands of its middle class amid internal shortages. | | | More >> | | | DuPont partners Mexican lab for corn project | | | Wilmington's DuPont Co. and a national laboratory in Mexico are collaborating to discover ways to increase corn output for a developing global population and bolster its increasing agricultural earnings. | | JBS faces half-year loss | | | Brazilian meat giant JBS announced a half-year loss after its US operations experienced problems that caused it to hit bottom line between April and June this year. | | Kernel inks first Russian acquisition | | | Kernel, a Ukrainian silos-to-sunflowers group, has recently completed a long-held quest for an acquisition in Russia with the purchase of Russian Oils. | | | More >> | | |
